Peter's shortcut to managing his health

Peter jokes that he’s the Bernie Cameron Centre‘s closest neighbour. As a retiree who lives alone in the area, he pops in most days, sometimes daily, as much for the company as anything else.

So when he heard about our Tap into Health drop-in session during one of his visits, it felt like a natural next step.
Peter had been dealing with a chest infection for several months, cycling through different medications and trying to keep track of it all. Having worked for the NHS earlier in his career, he understands the importance of looking after your health. But he’s honest about the fact that it gets harder with age, especially without family nearby to help navigate the system.

At the session, ELBA volunteer Taylor helped Peter download and set up the NHS App, walking him through ordering a repeat prescription and checking his medical test results. For someone whose mobility makes unnecessary trips to the GP difficult, the difference was immediate.

“It would reduce unnecessary phone calls and doctor visits,” Peter told us. He found it straightforward to use and was able to find what he needed quickly.

The best part? His regular visits to the Bernie Cameron Centre mean he knows where to go if anything changes or he needs a hand with updates. He’s not navigating it alone.
